Volume 10, Number 2 - Fall 2000

Declare Verb Supports Default Numeric or Alphabetic Types

The declare verb now allows its variables, which have a size parameter appended ( e. g. "declare name:25."), to default to either a type of numeric or alphanumeric instead of only to a numeric type. If the environment variable UBDECA is set to "Y" then the type is alphanumeric.

With the ability to set environment variables by job, the user could choose the desired type. In fact, this feature was required for automatic conversion of programs to Unibase. Users are encouraged to stick with one interpretation.
