Indexing Speeds Increase To Over
7000 Records Per Second

Users have requested faster indexing of over 7000 records per second for the Unibase by DMAC environment. It arrives in Unibase by DMAC release 7.48i. A new spawnable/command line executable program named rapidix provides this feature.

Both the single file being indexed and the index must be exclusively used by rapidix. In addition the key must exist in the file as adjacent characters. Portions of a file can been indexed. The new merge index features in Unibase by DMAC can be used to combine these portions. No constraints are built into the index created. It is as valid as any other index created in the environment by a sort program.

Client computer speed, RAM, disk speed, network topology and other factors affect the actual speed of the indexing. It is at least an order of magnitude faster than the current sort program. But of course a sort program can do things rapidix cannot do.

In the Unibase MUI ( Menu User Interface) this has been added under Advanced Processing, Index Functions, "Index One Data File." Progress?
