Update Mode Differs Between DE and IE

Back in the Winter, 1998, edition of "The DMAC Technical Review" the different features of the data entry update mode and image entry update mode were highlighted. Over the last three years these update modes have continued to grow apart.

In image entry, update mode has become another method for doing reject repair. In data entry, update mode remains a way of adding keying data to existing records. The big difference is how the auto key is used. Turning off the auto key in image entry update mode allows one to wander around the current record. Turning off the auto key in data entry update mode still has rigorous controls over where one goes and what one does.

The manuals are being updated to reflect these differences.
