Concurrent Users Logged In DMAC's Comname File; DMAC Gets Usage

Unibase  by  DMAC  runs on most operating  systems  on  most computers. Some of those platforms, like Novell, are able to keep track of concurrent users; some are not. DMAC is committed   to  using  software  (not  dongles)   to   track concurrent users so users have maximum flexibility.

DMAC has introduced a new file called "comname" that resides in  the  bin directory to track all Unibase  and  concurrent users  of Unibase. The users are tracked by a  computername, not  by  the  Unibase operator id  names.  This  allows  for multiple  sessions, or windows from the same computer to  be counted as a single logged in user.

As  the holes in this approach are found by use and  misuse, DMAC   will  continue  to  try  to  improve  this   process. Currently,  DMAC has added a new 32 bit program for  Windows NT  servers and a similar program for LINUX and  UNIX.  This program  check all users to find users who have  logged  off the network, but not out of Unibase by DMAC. The Unibase  by DMAC record is updated with the results of such a search.

Most users use the "scheduler" for NT systems and "cron" for LINUX  and  UNIX  systems to automate  the  running  of  the program when the number of concurrent users is minimal.
