Rick and Ricky Put Pedal to the Metal

May  17, 1999 was a red letter day at DMAC. On May 17,  Rick Tarbox (remember #1 son; a junior at Tulane University)  and Ricky  Nelson (straight from Technical Support and a  junior at University of Maryland) began working on two new products for  next year -- a JAVA browser version of Unibase by  DMAC and an ActiveX version.

Actually  the first running piece will be the equivalent  of the  current dei.exe (or equivalent of de.exe if  no  images are  involved). The ActiveX dei works like a charm.  Now  we are looking for a beta site for integrated testing.

The Java browser version of dei.exe will be ready for a beta site this fall.

Both  projects were feasibility projects in that  we  really don't  work on stuff for which a client has no  request.  We have  had a lot of interest in both types of product but  no one signed the dotted line --- yet. Mainly a chicken and egg problem;   clients  cannot  believe  our  chickens  are   so productive.

But Rick and Ricky wanted us to have superior products ready to go for the new century. Quality Assurance on 7.46i 32 bit has  taken so long they just had to try out some  new  ideas while  waiting to support the new CD-ROM release of  Unibase by  DMAC.  Even RFmouse.exe will have been moved to  32  bit before the beta's for these two products will be complete.

Rick 'volunteered' to stay in Winchester until 2000 (miss  a semester)  so  that everything is  complete  in  development before next year - year 2000.

We at DMAC find it wonderful that the next generation of  us founders  is  working on the next generation of  Unibase  by DMAC.
