AIIM Show Accents Competitive Features of Unibase by DMAC

DMAC's recent trip to the AIIM (The Association for Information and Image Management International) Exhibits accents the competitive features of Unibase by DMAC, Release 7.4i, which have been designed into the environment. Listed here are some needed features and advantages that "brand new" products at the show do not have. We thank the users for suggesting these features and hope to continue to listen to our users as to the real needs in data capture.

Upgrade Path Provided

Perhaps the most significant feature is that DMAC upgrades Unibase by DMAC when new features are announced. With the menu driven conversion features of Release 7.4i, any past version of Unibase by DMAC can be upgraded to the latest features. We at DMAC do not change the name of the product every time we add new features to circumvent the automatic update feature provided with annual maintenance fees.

Minimum Hardware Requirements - Do Not Change with Releases

DMAC's minimum hardware requirements have not changed. As mentioned in the Winter, 1995 issue of this newsletter, Unibase by DMAC Release 7.4i, still runs on an 8088 machine with 640k of ram. Unibase Imaging still runs on 80286 and newer machines with 4 megabytes of ram memory.  Unibase by DMAC does automatically take advantage of any machine which has more than 2 megabytes of memory. With the new install program Unibase by DMAC does install on DOS and Windows (3.1, Workgroups, 95 and NT) systems with a single installation disk set. We do not make users wait two years for features and then not be able to run them on the currently installed equipment.

Queue By Unique Operators, Or Groups, As Desired & Needed

DMAC's Unibase-Q work queuing feature of Unibase by DMAC, Release 7.4i, allows the management of each operator's work load. The concept of treating each operator as a potentially unique asset for the corporation seemed the right way to go. It still provides a fast, easy to use way of batch management for both image and paper source data capture. It does not make the mistake of treating operators as a whole and allowing movement of operators without knowing which operators are being moved from job to job.

Speed of New Machines Used for Features

As faster and faster machines are made available, the majority of this new found speed is used for throughput in the process. This speed is not consumed by inefficient operating systems and programming languages.

Long 31-Character File Name Paths Give User More Flexibility

Unibase by DMAC, Release 7.4i, gives the user a long 31-character file name path for all the modules used to support the environment. In designing the latest features, we at DMAC listened to users who want to separate work by client, job and task into a directory structure which reflects this breakdown by category.

Memory Constraints Removed

Unibase by DMAC, Release 7.4i, once again tackled the memory constraints which cause users concern. The maximum size of an AID Program in Data/Image entry was doubled. The needs of the Unibase by DMAC environment were studied and a better memory management scheme was installed.

We at DMAC continue to respond to user suggestions and requestions.
