Structured Query Language - SQL; Open Database Connectivity - ODBC Two Ways To Remain an Open System

Unibase by DMAC is much more than a data/image entry environment.  The AID language provides a fourth generation easy approach to multi user database utilization.  Within the specialized world of key-to-disk replacement systems the AID language and its look alikes and predecessors have grown to support almost all functions of database manipulation on files measured in the millions of records.

SQL Language Supported

While historically correct, the AID language databases in Unibase by DMAC can be accessed through the Structured Query Language (SQL) ANSI standard interface.  This interface to Unibase by DMAC has existed for several years.

Now ODBC Supported

Now comes the addition of the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) standard.  Through the Unibase by DMAC interface drivers, Microsoft Windows ODBC based environments such as Power Builder can access not only Unibase by DMAC databases but also concurrently access other SQL ODBC databases such as SYBASE and ORACLE databases.

Unibase Acts As True Client Server

Unibase by DMAC is acting as a true client server to support these Open Systems requirements.  A middleware language specification called Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) allows translation of requests of the Unibase by DMAC databases to a machine independent data structure so that calls can be passed to and from environments like Power Builder running under Windows to Unibase by DMAC under UNIX.

Open and Portable Data in Unibase

For service organizations integrating the data capture functions into meetign client needs, we at DMAC feel it is mandatory to allow any database, validation edit tables, or table lookup capabilities created in Unibase to be available for enterprise wide usage on other application software, other hardware and other operating system platforms.  Data, as well as the operating environment, should be open and portable for all users.
