New Install Program Unites All MS/IBM Versions into One Install

Responding to user requests to make their work easier, Unibase by DMAC, release 7.42i, now installs all Microsoft and IBM versions from a single install set of diskettes.

The new install program supports installation of the following servers:

  • Novell
  • Windows NT
  • Banyan Vines
  • Peer To Peer
  • Standalone PC
The program installs these client workstations for the above servers:
  • MSDOS/PCDOS
  • Windows 3.x
  • Windows 95
  • Windows NT
  • OS/2 WARP
Any of the above mentioned client workstations can be supported on the above mentioned servers. Noreen Dunlap in Quality Assurance has spent the past six months checking that all of the above combinations work well from the single set of installed programs.

Each OS Uses Slightly Different API

Because each operating system provides a different application program interface (API), the Unibase by DMAC code has to recognize both what type of server is installed and what type of workstation client is being used. Unibase now automatically uses the proper interface with great speed.

Unibase.ini File Sets Environment

Using the "unibase.ini" file, the Unibase by DMAC environment now rides lightly on the various operating systems. No changes to the boot programs such as config.sys and autoexec.bat are required.

Icons Generated for GUI Versions

All of the Graphical User Interface Icons are generated for the users in the respective GUI operating system. We at DMAC chose to have menu, de, dei, ez_edit and the readme file as icon items.

The capability to set up mutilple clients from a single workstation, even in Standalone server mode, is available.

After the first set of users reported on ease of installation, we have decided to add a means for installing clients from the server rather than from diskette. The concept of mulitple clients on a workstation is supported by DMAC under one workstation license.
