Fall 1996 Issue Qualified For Standard Mail Automation Rates

"The Unibase Technical Review", Fall 1996 issue qualified for the United States Post Office Standard Mail Automation Rates. In the Fall 1996 issue we spoke of the process of changing to meet the new requirements, but since the issue had not been mailed we could not report on the complete success. A few remaining items had to be handled before we submitted the issue to the USPO.

Need Label Outline

First we found that we need to preprint a label outline on the first page so that the labeling process can measure its success in keeping in the correct location without skew.

Need Rubber Banded List

Second, our post office representative wants a fancier list in a more familiar format to tell how many addresses were in each rubberbanded package.

Need Current Update From USPO

Third, when we went to do this issue we found that our Group One software provided update had expired and we were faced with another commitment of $1000.00 to renew for a year. We did not wish to give a significant percentage of our savings to Group One.

Bill Baber got busy on the internet and found a CASS certification program from Semaphore Corporation (408-688- 9200) which cuts the cost for our four mailings to about $320.00. This compares very favorably with the savings over a year. The program works well also.

Must Pass Barcode Read Test

Fourth, for this mailing, the local post office has a new machine to tell us if we are printing the bar codes the way the USPO wants them. We plan to take 100 or so over and see what the machine tells us. More on this in our next issue.
