Unibase Technical Specifications

Unibase by DMAC runs on Microsoft supported Windows products. Unibase by DMAC stays up to date with Microsoft Update changes. The Unibase by DMAC standalone version will run on any currently supported Microsoft Windows operating system. However the home versions have issues in a network in DMAC’s opinion. Of course, cpu speed and ram size affect performance.  Although we still have customers using Windows XP as workstations on a network, since it is no longer supported by Microsoft, DMAC does not recommend it.

Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98 have issues. Many of the newer features of Unibase by DMAC and Unibase Imaging work well on newer Windows workstations. Some new features, such as the picklist verb, encounter known Microsoft product weaknesses (bugs) on older operating systems.

Windows 2008, 2012, and 2016 Server Families are today’s workhorses. The servers of choice today are the Windows 2008R2, Windows 2012R2, or Windows 2016 product family (Standard, Enterprise, or Datacenter Edition). This family supports remote terminal services which DMAC sees as the best way to provide web based data entry at this time. This server family is reliable and totally scalable.

Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7 Professional make good workstations.  With new hardware costs down to under $500, this software / inexpensive hardware configuration cannot be beat. But, upgrading to new versions from a prior version can be a nightmare. If you doubt, see the web for comments about what is needed in the next major release. DMAC’s guess, and other’s guess too, is that the upgrade process is not perfect —yet.

Summary of Specifications

Modern computer hardware does not limit Unibase by DMAC. Almost any new hardware which will run Microsoft supported workstation or server is fine for running Unibase by DMAC. DMAC tries to make sure that the older operating systems can still run the features which they ran when they were new.
